The Beyond Villa series is both a continuation and a departure of chromatic exploration that began with the Villa series, which is inspired by listening to the tranquil and timeless utopia depicted in Marisa Monte’s “Vilarejo.” This new body of work transcends the initial vision, as canvas continues to be a playground for hues to discover new combinations of color and form. Introducing bolder and more expansive color fields, I cover significant portions of the canvas, setting the base for the rest of the composition. As I layer paint on paint intuitively, the compositions and shapes become more intentional and unapologetic. Beyond Villa is the deliberate result of the planned and the unplanned, the known and the unknown, the seen and the unseen.
